My very own ONHYM experience; and what it entails
My colleague Lola and I had been working really hard to convince our previous company to organise an oil and gas event in Morocco, whilst trying to arrange a 30’ meeting with ONHYM’s Directors in Rabat. Both tasks seemed really tough, with little faith from Management and even less luck with ONHYM.
However, the fantastic Lola, managed to achieve a meeting with ONHYM’s Promotion and Partnerships Director, Mme Benhammou on Christmas eve. 16 hours of connected flights and two fish tagines later, we met at ONHYM’s offices (take note, there are two ONHYM HQ locations, one downtown Rabat and one a bit further out) where we were greeted with Moroccan tea and big smiles.
Our 30’ chat turned into a good two hour conversation, which entailed a good in-depth overview of ourselves, the company, the agenda, project and idea behind the event.
ONHYM is very straight-forward. They know what they want and they know how to make it happen, and this attitude is a very pleasant change to our usual state stakeholder meetings.
ONHYM cares about their investors, whom they call “Partners”, and they show it in every comment they make. They want to ensure that they are pleased with working in Morocco, address them with professionalism and you can feel that their interaction is similar to the one of an ecosystem, rather than a stiff state-investor relationship.

They made sure that we had an excellent overview of where Morocco had been standing at that point with each of their partners, where they needed investment, the type of investment, and they were completely transparent about their pain-points or challenges.
Honesty at its finest. This refreshing meeting also included a breakdown of all operations and functions of the Promotion event, as well as a detailed plan of how ONHYM would help and what their duties would include. In one hour or so, we had signed the MOU and a non-financial contract, and we left with the best impressions.

ONHYM is massive. However, we quickly noticed that they move as fast as they should, get back to you in due time and take their job very seriously. They are genuinely interested in hitting all targets in a professional manner that I have only seen in private companies.
However, their strongest point is how they deal with their partners.
They care about their investors, whom they call “Partners”, and they show it in every comment they make. They want to ensure that they are pleased with working in Morocco, address them with professionalism and you can feel that their interaction is similar to the one of an ecosystem, rather than a stiff state-investor relationship.
And this is why literally EVERYONE is interested in working in Morocco. Because besides its huge untapped potential, you have the pleasure to work with one of the most professional and hard-working transparent teams in the world.
Marrakech, May 2014. A full conference room of potential investors, ready to meet with ONHYM. Our greatest event ever-until now.
